Education and Outreach

• Provide logistics support to MSE educational initiatives at UPRM
• Encourage interactive research and education of participating students, including summer research at UPRM and UW
• Implement online presentation of the weekly UW Materials Science Speaker Series (started on April 1, 2004 – MRSEC funding)
• Coordinate Teachers’ Summer Activities (TSA) with Mayagüez School District
• Participate in UPRM MSE curriculum development
• Produce bilingual MSE instruction modules to be first used in Wisconsin and Puerto Rico with MRSEC support

Achievements

• Foster the creation of Material Advantage Student Chapter at UPRM
• Promote MSE issues amongst public high school student population:
  • Scientific Fair & High School Student Research
  • Educational seminars
  • Materials Club Establishment (CIM)

Materials Science & Engineering Master of Science's Program

One of the main goals of PREM is to establish a Master of Science's Program in MSE. For this purpose a set of courses were designed and a proposal had been crafted. Final approval of this effort is pending from the University of Puerto Rico Central Administration and the Puerto Rico Higher Education Council.
